The Group highlights the issues and challenges facing Scotland’s small towns, and promotes and advocates the development and regeneration of these towns.

Out and about in Jedburgh

In October 2004, the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) required that all premises open to the public should be made physically accessible, or where this is impractical, that alternative services should be offered and made known.

Isobel McLeish, Norrie McLeish, Kat Murray and Lynsey Bowling undertook the task of a Jedburgh access survey which takes a look at all those buildings in Jedburgh used by the public; these include commercial businesses such as retail premises, hotels as well as public buildings and identifies those that are physically accessible and those that are not.
Where physical access is impossible or difficult, the provider of the service still needs to comply with the DDA and offer appropriate alternatives to disabled people who are unable to access their premises.

It is hoped that more Border towns will now follow with their own guide.
