A Crisis Grant is a sum of money given by the Scottish Welfare Fund in a crisis. The grant is tax free and you don’t have to pay it back.
A Crisis Grant is something you need:
- in an emergency
- because of disaster.
You can apply for a Crisis Grant to cover the cost of essentials like:
In addition, the help you need must be:
- not available from anywhere else, and
- the only way to stop serious damage to you or your family's health and safety
If your application is unsuccessful and you don’t agree with our decision you can request a review.
How to apply
To apply, please phone the Customer Advice and Support Service on 0300 100 1800 and an appointment will be arranged for you to be called back by the Scottish Welfare Fund team. Please be aware that an appointment system is operated and you will be offered the first available appointment.
You can also download a postal application form or complete an online application. Please note that if you submit a postal application form this may take longer to process than calling our Customer Advice and Support Service to arrange a telephone appointment.
We will decide Crisis Grant applications as soon as possible. This will be by the end of the next working day after you apply.
You will be asked for your mobile phone number and if you are successful a voucher text will be sent to your mobile phone and this can be redeemed anywhere that displays the pay point sign. If you do not have a mobile phone the assessor will discuss alternative payment methods with you such as vouchers.
What happens if we are closed?
