Eddleston Primary School
On 25 June 2026 we considered the statutory consultation process undertaken regarding Eddleston Primary School Closure Proposal and the terms of the Consultation Report dated 16 June 2026, following its publication for three weeks before that, and request for further feedback.
Elected members decided on 25 June to proceed with the proposal to close Eddleston Primary School and rezone the catchment area to Kingsland Primary School, and this will be due to take effect from 22 December 2026 ( as likely implementation date), in accordance with Section 11A(3) of the Schools Consultation (Scotland) Act 2010 which is available to view on the Gov website.
Elected members reviewed the educational benefits set out in the Proposal Report alongside all consultation feedback. Education Scotland’s report supports these benefits, and the Council is satisfied that proceeding with the permanent closure is the most appropriate response to the reasons for the proposal.
Consultation feedback indicates a strong community desire for clarity and finality, with majority support for the proposal following three years of temporary closure. The proposal offers educational benefits by establishing a clear and sustainable catchment arrangement with Kingsland Primary School, Peebles; supporting continuity of learning; strengthening community cohesion after a prolonged period of temporary closure; and ensuring pupils have access to nearby primary provision in Peebles, in line with the majority preference of those living currently within the Eddleston catchment area.
