Road works and closures

Road Closure FAQs

Why is the road closed? Can the works be carried out under traffic lights?

Due to current Health and Safety Legislation, we are required to close the road due to the fact there is not enough available road width to allow vehicles to be accommodated through the works safely.

I live within the extent of the closure, will I get access to my home during the working times?

Controlled pedestrian access will be maintained at all times during the works. Vehicular access will be granted where works allow and when safe to do so. Delays should be expected. Please contact the sentry on duty for access/egress.

I live out with the extent of the closure, will I get access through the works?

Controlled pedestrian access will be maintained at all times during the works, except in the case of significant bridge refurbishment schemes where this may not physically or safely be possible. Vehicular access will unfortunately be restricted in this case. Please follow the signed diversionary route or local routes to your destination.

I have an appointment, will I be granted access during the working times?

If travelling to an appointment, we would advise that you park out with the extent of the closure. This will ensure you do not experience any unexpected delays. If this is not possible. Please contact our Roads Asset Team prior to the closure to notify them of your request - placeroadsasset@scotborders.gov.uk.

I have carers attending my property several times a day, will they be able to gain access?

Controlled Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times during the works. However, if the Carer requires vehicular access, we recommend that you contact our Roads Asset Team prior to the closure to notify them of the timings the carer will require access. This will ensure the carer can visit the patient without delay - placeroadsasset@scotborders.gov.uk.

I have a scheduled delivery, will it be granted access during the working times?

We would politely ask if deliveries could be scheduled out with the closure time. As access cannot be guaranteed at specific times. However, if this is not possible, please contact our Roads Asset Team prior to the closure to notify them of your request - placeroadsasset@scotborders.gov.uk.

Will my general waste/recycling/food waste collection still take place?

Our asset team will make prior contact with our Reduce Reuse Recycle Team who will endeavour to carry out waste collections prior to the closure time each day. Please ensure bins are located at kerbside/pick up point by 7am on day of collection.

Is the Service/School Bus still operating during the closure times?

Our asset team will make prior contact with our Passenger Transport Team who will advise if the closure affects any School or Public Services. School buses will be accommodated through all closures where possible or alternative arrangements made . Further details of these arrangements will be advertised on the Transport Providers Website and Social Media Pages.

What will happen in the event of a blue light emergency?

Works will be stopped immediately, and the emergency services will be allowed through the works as long as the nature of the closure will permit.
