Staff

Will my continuous service be transferred?

Yes, all your terms and conditions will transfer to us.

Am I being made redundant?

No, you are being transferred into SBC under TUPE.

Why am I receiving a P45 and new employee number?

The P45 is purely an administrative process and will be generated as part of informing HM Revenue and Customs of the transfer of employer. The new employee number is required to set you up in our payroll system.

Will we transfer back into Social Work?

No, SB Cares will transfer back in as a separate Department reporting directly to our Chief Executive.

Will my location change?

There will be no change to the location of the majority of staff. Staff currently located in HQ will all be moved into our HQ building.

Why will staff be better off?

It is expected that reintegrating SB Cares will provide new opportunities, break down artificial barriers which have been created and allow us to be part of key transformational programmes including Fit for 2024.

What will be the impact on staff of transferring to SBC?

We believe that the transfer will give a positive new future for our services and we expect that staff will benefit from being part of a wider organisation.

Will staffing levels be reduced?

Staffing levels will not be changed because of the reintegration.

Will our rotas and shift patterns stay the same?

There is no proposal that any rota or shift patterns will change as part of reintegration

Will we get new uniforms?

There are no plans to replace SB Cares uniforms. We are looking to find the most effective way to keep the SB Cares brand while still reflecting that we are part of the Council again.

How will absence be managed differently?

The absence management policies and procedures will remain the same as in SB Cares, as SB Cares adopted all our policies.

Will our jobs be secure?

All staff will transfer directly into SBC.

Can I still work in one service and do relief work in another service?

Yes you can.

Staff I currently have a Car Salary Sacrifice arrangement, will this change?

No, this arrangement will be novated from SB Cares to us and monthly reductions will continue as at present.

I took an advance for mileage when we transferred to SB Cares, does this have to be repaid now?

No, this will be transferred over to us and recovered on leaving as per the original agreement or you could opt to repay this in a number of instalments.

I currently have Technology and/or Smart Phone deductions, will these continue?

Yes, these will be transferred over to us and deducted until the full balance has been recovered.

Will there be any change to my Pension arrangements?

No, SB Cares was an admitted body to the Scottish Borders Council Pension Fund and your pension service will be automatically transferred to reflect your change of employer.

I currently pay AVC, will this change?

No, this will change over between SB Cares and SBC and the provider will be updated.

Will I have to re-register with SSSC?

No, you will not have to re-register but you may have to update your details. We are working with the Care Inspectorate to determine the correct transfer method and will keep you posted and they will inform SSSC. If any amendments are required by you we will provide time, information and PC access.

Will training be the same?

A draft training matrix has been developed which focusses on staff and client needs. This sees more specific training being provided and proposals for more face to face training. This has been developed in line with us and therefore this development will continue.

Will night support staff still use Council vehicles?

The current arrangements will continue.

Will home care workers need to use their own cars?

The current arrangements will continue.
