How we will use your information

Any information recorded will be processed by Scottish Borders Council, Newtown St Boswells, TD6 0SA.

The Council is collecting and using this  information in the performance of a task carried out in the public interest  in order to:

  • maintain security at our sites,
  • protect the safety of our staff,
  • prevent and detect (and act as a deterrent against) crime and anti-social behaviour, to protect buildings and assets from damage, disruption, vandalism and other crime and to apprehend and prosecute offenders
  • monitor our service’s health and safety practices
  • ensure general compliance with relevant legal obligations
  • provide information in the event of any events requiring investigation.
  • monitor service delivery to meet our duty to achieve best value and continuous service improvement.

If not retained for event investigation information is retained as follows:

  • CCTV information is retained for 2 to 4 weeks,
  • Vehicle camera information stores up to 190 hours of footage, which then overwrites. For a vehicle used consistently this would be a period of approx 5 weeks. For vehicles used only intermittently it could be significantly longer.
  • Body Camera information is retained for 30 days.

When retained for event investigation copies will be retained until the investigation is complete and the information is no longer required. This will usually be a period of a few months, however in serious cases it may be retained up to 5 years.

Who we may share your information with

Your information will be accessed by Council staff who need to use it to provide the service described above . The Council is legally obliged to share certain data with other public bodies such as the Police and Scottish Environment Protection Agency and will do so where the law requires this and it will be proportionate.
