Greenspace

Explore the Scottish Borders greenspaces on your doorstep and get involved…

We’ve created a series of fun, family friendly outdoor activities to help children (and adults!) discover more about the nature on their doorstep throughout the year. Whether you want to sharpen your observation skills, get creative with friends and classmates or help grow tomorrow’s woodlands, there’s something for everyone to try.

Become a Seasonal Nature Detective

Our Nature Detective activity sheets guide children through what to look for in local parks and greenspaces as the seasons change. From spotting fungi and seed heads in autumn to seeing which plants and creatures are active at other times of year, these sheets help young explorers tune into the natural world around them.

Perfect for walks, school outings, or simply discovering something new close to home.

Play the Seasonal Chatterbox

Our Seasonal Chatterbox is a fun, fold your own game that encourages children to explore using their senses, imagination, and curiosity. Each flap reveals a different prompt or challenge - from noticing the colours of spring flowers to listening carefully for birdsong.

It’s a great way to get children talking, thinking, and engaging with their natural surroundings in playful ways.

Collect an Acorn and Grow Your Own Oak Tree

Take part in this hands on activity that begins with a simple walk in your local park. Learn how to identify oak trees, collect healthy acorns, and plant them at home or school. With a bit of care, you could nurture a young sapling ready to be planted out in a year or two - helping to create the next generation of woodland habitat.
A lovely activity for families, classes, or community groups.
