How we will use your information

We use Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras at selected Council-operated car parks to understand how these car parks are being used. The cameras capture vehicle registration marks, still images of vehicles, and the date, time and location of entry and exit.

This information is used to calculate parking occupancy, length of stay, vehicle turnover, repeat visits and patterns of car park use, to support the management and future planning of our car parks. Once entry and exit records have been matched, vehicle registration marks are replaced with a pseudonymised identifier. The information processed will be retained for 7 days.

The system is not used for parking enforcement, issuing Penalty Charge Notices, payment processing, tracking individual vehicles or identifying registered keepers. No checks against DVLA keeper records are carried out.

Cameras are positioned to minimise the incidental capture of individuals and are not directed at residential properties, footways beyond the car park access points, or the wider public realm.

We are collecting and using this information as it is necessary for the performance of a task which is carried out by ourselves in the public interest.
