How do I apply for a new permit?

New digital permits/season tickets will be available from 21 September 2026 through the RingGo app or by calling 0131 516 4000.

Will there be an increase in permit charges?

Yes. From 1 October 2026 permits will cost £107.50.

Where can I use my RingGo permit?

A parking permit/season ticket is valid in one nominated car park only:

Can I use my RingGo permit in more than one car park?

No. RingGo permits are valid for one car park only.

Does a permit/season ticket guarantee a parking space?

No. A permit or season ticket does not guarantee a parking space. Spaces are subject to availability.

I have a RingGo permit and I'm changing my car. What should I do?

From 21 September 2026, updates can be made through the RingGo app.

Will I receive a renewal reminder?

No. It is the permit holder's responsibility to renew.

Which type of vehicle can I use with my permit?

Permits are only available for:

  • Cars
  • Goods vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes maximum gross weight
  • Vehicles with up to 13 seats, including the driver

To qualify for a Resident's Parking Permit, your vehicle must fit entirely within a marked parking space. Parking spaces are 5m long and 2.5m wide.

Can I apply if I don't live in the Scottish Borders?

Yes. Anyone can apply.

What if I can't afford the increased charge?

Alternative parking options are available, including free car parks and on-street parking where permitted.

My permit expires between March and September 2026. What should I do?

You can continue using your expired paper permit until 30 September 2026 at no extra cost. Please keep it displayed in your windscreen.

I renewed my permit in February 2026. What happens now?

Your current paper permit will remain valid until February 2027.

I'm changing my car and have a paper permit valid until February 2027. What should I do?

Email payparking@scotborders.gov.uk with:

  • Contact number
  • Permit number
  • Current vehicle registration
  • New vehicle registration

Please keep your existing permit.
