Scottish Borders Community Spaces Decarbonisation
Scottish Borders Community Spaces Decarbonisation is part of the Community Regeneration Partnership (CRP) agreed between the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) and Scottish Borders Council (SBC). The total bid for the Community Regeneration Partnership was £20 million, with £650,000 allocated to this grant scheme.
This programme is administered by Borders Community Action.
The initiative aims to help local organisations reduce carbon emissions by investing in energy-efficient solutions, including renewable energy installations, insulation improvements, and heating system upgrades.
This follows the successful pilot Village Halls Retrofit programme, which focused on key energy efficiency measures such as energy audits, insulation, window and door upgrades, LED lighting, heat pumps, solar panels, battery storage, and digital infrastructure.
The fund will be open to eligible community centres and village halls aimed at delivering community-based activities for people of all ages and abilities. The application will be available on the Borders Community Action website in the coming weeks with projects already in the retrofit pipeline being given priority-based energy improvement measures identified in their audits.
This investment reflects a continued commitment to community-led regeneration and sustainability, empowering local people to play a key role in Scotland’s transition to net zero.
