Community Welfare Trust

Our Welfare Trust is a registered charity and was established to assist in the:

  • prevention or the relief of poverty
  • relief of those in need by reason of age, ill health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage
  • advancement of health (including the advancement of education in health)

The Welfare Trust awards grants up to a maximum of:

  • £1k to non-constituted groups/individuals
  • £2.5k to fully constituted groups

How to apply

Before you submit a Community Welfare Trust application form, please ensure that your project aligns with the Purpose of the fund (column 3) and that there are sufficient funds in the Ward you wish to apply to (column 6).  Please see below for further information.

Projects must assist in the:  

Purpose A: prevention or the relief of poverty

Purpose B: relief of those in need by reason of age, ill health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage

Funded projects

Borderswide

  • Interest Link Borders were awarded £3,611.83 to support 187 individuals of varied ages with 1:1 and group befriending support

Berwickshire 

  • An individual was awarded £1,000.00 to support the costs for a Transitions Programme run by Edge adventures, an autism-focused outdoor adventure organisation based in Musselburgh. 
  • An individual was awarded £999.00 to support them to achieve their Maths and English NAT 5s via online distance learning
  • Duns Parish Church was awarded £662.00 for the set up of a fortnightly tea and toast drop-in on Tuesday mornings to provide a regular warm space for people who are isolated in the community of Duns.

Eildon 

  • Galashiels and Area Foodbank was awarded £2.5k to contribute towards ongoing costs to support more than 100 families and individuals each week.
  • An individual was awarded £1k for British Sign Language (BSL) courses to teach their child sign language. 
  • Dementia Friendly Music Therapy Group was awarded £994 to support weekly music sessions at Langlee Community Centre for those living with Alzheimer’s.
  • Selkirk Foodbank was awarded £2.5k to purchase £15 vouchers for local fresh vegetables and butcher meat to give to foodbank users over the next 12 months.  
  • Focus Centre (Galashiels) was awarded £1.75k to host a “Make a Difference (MAD) day” on the last Friday before Christmas, providing good quality second-hand clothing and warm winter coats, entertainment for young people, refreshments, food parcels, fleece blankets, and Christmas gifts

Teviot and Liddesdale

  • An individual was awarded £319.00 for the purchase of a new fridge

Tweeddale

  • Food HUGS was awarded £1.36k to help support with venue hire and kitchen rental costs for their community lunch club.
  • Innerleithen Parish Church was awarded  £1.45k to provide continued support to young mums attending Warm Wednesdays by providing ingredients and equipment for cooking cheap healthy meals.
