Day opportunities for older people

Daytime opportunities for older adults are provided by a range of organisations and community groups across the Borders.

To find out more about what’s available in your area, visit your nearest What Matters Hub. These offer drop-in sessions and appointments where you can meet people from community or voluntary groups as well as our social workers and occupational therapists.

Teviot day service

Teviot day service is available as of 29 April 2024. It provides an opportunity for adults with dementia and complex care needs in the Hawick area to socialise and participate in meaningful activities in a supported environment. The overall aim is to:

  • support you to maintain or regain your daily living skills and general well-being
  • promote independence and guide you to other forms of support when needed
  • to be flexible and responsive to your changing needs
  • encourage you to become fully involved in your personal support planning
  • enable you to make informed choices about your lifestyle.

The service is based within Hawick Community Hospital and is provided by our Adult Social Care team. It's available five days a week from 10am-6pm and can accommodate up to 14 service users per session. You can attend for a full day or alternatively for a morning or afternoon session. Referral is by assessment.

Newcastleton warm and well sessions

The Newcastleton Trust currently provide enhanced Welcome Holm sessions at Buccleuch House in South Hermitage Street. Local provider, Holmcare and our Adult Social Care staff can support clients to attend and provide personal care if needed.

An assessment is required for anyone who needs supported attendance; otherwise the sessions operate on a drop-in basis.

How much will it cost?

The cost of a service provided by our Adult Social Care team varies depending on your eligibility to receive it. In some cases, it may be free. In others, a charge may be applied in line with our eligibility criteria and charging policy.

How to get a service

To help us decide what support may be available to help you and what charges may be applied, we will need you to have an assessment. You can find out more by visiting your nearest What Matters Hub or by contacting our Customer Advice and Support Service on 0300 100 1800 (Option 1).
