Electric vehicle charging points

The Scottish Government is delivering a network of public rapidcharger charging points for electric vehicles (EV) across Scotland, which will provide charging for EV drivers. The charging scheme will connect with points in Northumberland.

Scottish Borders charging points

ChargePlace Scotland offers a comprehensive and up-to-date list of charging points across the Scottish Borders and Scotland. It includes information on whether a charging point is in use, what type of connectors it has, nearby facilities and an option to report a fault.

ChargePlace Scotland is owned and has been developed by the Scottish Government, and funded in partnership through a public grant from Local Authorities and other organisations.

Charges introduced for using EV charging points

There is a cost to use Scottish Borders Council electric charging points. Please note that where these are located in pay and display car parks you must also purchase a parking ticket.

* please note that any AC connector on a Rapid Charger will be subject to the rapid charger tariff and any overstay fees/time limits.

Please refer to local signage and the ChargePlace Scotland live map before connecting to avoid unexpected charges.

Overstay Fees

An overstay fee is applied to all Rapid charging units to ensure there is sufficient turnover of users & more users can get access to the chargers. A 10 minute grace period will be provided.

No overstay fee is proposed for fast (22kW) & slow (7kW) charging units but we would encourage users to vacate the charging bay as soon as possible after charging is complete to allow other users access to the charger.

Charging point locations across Scotland

  • every 50 miles on trunk roads (an integrated network will join electric vehicles with public transport)
  • at leisure facilities, in local authority public car parks and at ferry terminals for travel to and from the islands
  • home and workplace charging points (Transport Scotland is providing grants through the Energy Saving Trust for the full cost of fitting)
