Deferred entry to P1
Parents have a legal right to defer your child’s entry to primary school if they have not yet turned five years of age on the first day of the school session in August.
Please note children who have already turned five years of age on the first day of term in August must apply to start Primary 1.
All applications must be made by last day of February, and to allow for a transition period for children, it must be decided by 31 May whether children are deferring or not.
Any changes after this date can only be made in exceptional circumstances, this includes any applications to start Primary 1.
