Pilot details - Berwickshire

The areas and sites across Berwickshire detailed below will either receive extra cuts during the season or a reduced cutting regime and include the establishment of more naturalised areas. 

Sites to receive an extra cut as and when required:

Cemeteries and churchyards 

  • Duns cemetery - the new section
  • Hutton cemetery  
  • Whitsome new cemetery 
  • Preston new cemetery 
  • Westruther cemetery 
  • Swinton cemetery 
  • Ladykirk churchyard 
  • Gavinton churchyard 
  • Chirnside cemetery (new area) 

Play areas 

  • Paxton play area 
  • Hutton play area 
  • Chirnside, Windram Park - around the play equipment 

Other greenspace sites

  • Chirnside, Windsor Locks - the large grass square 

Sites which will include naturalised areas and receive a reduced cutting regime:

Duns 

  • Boston Churchyard - the entrance area will be cut, including a path round perimeter.  The full area will be cut at the end of the season. 
  • Old Primary School – rear area will be left to naturalise with a path cut around the edge and through it.  A cut and lift of the full area will be done at the end of the season. 
  • Station Road Industrial Estate – the area opposite the main entrance to Farne Salmon and the area along by the bottle banks at new extension will be left to naturalise and cut at the end of the season. 

Foulden 

  • King George V Playing Field – the area around the trees at the entrance will be left to naturalise and will be cut and lifted at the end of the season.  A deeper border around the usual cut section will be left to naturalise and cut as normal from August onwards.  The damp area near the main road will be left to naturalise.     
  • Churchyard - the area to the rear of the church will be left to naturalise with paths cut through it.  The full area will be cut and lifted at the end of the season.     
  • Mordington old cemetery – the cemetery will be left to naturalise with a path cut to the war graves, this will all be cut and lifted at the end of the season.  The verges at the junction and layby will be left to naturalise and cut and lifted at the ened of the season
  • Preston old cemetery – will be left to naturalise with a path cut around the perimeter of the cemetery. All will be cut at the end of the season.
  • Cranshaws - the verges will be cut to the 20s signs.   
  • Bonkyl churchyard/cemetery – the entrance area and the edges alongside the path to the church will be cut.  The churchyard and unused section of the car park will be left to naturalise.  The whole area will be cut and lifted at the end of the season. 

Westruther  

  • Churchyard – the area will be left to naturalise and a path cut through.  The whole area will be cut at end of the season. 
  • Verges - the verge from the Edgar Road junction to the 20 limits will be left to naturalise and cut at the end of the season. 

Gavinton 

  • The verges at East End and to the south on Fogo Road will be cut to the 20s signs.    

Chirnside 

  • Windram Park – the area around the trees and less used areas will be left to naturalise and cut twice during the season.     
  •  Crosshill and The Quarry area – the Quarry area will be left to naturalise with a path cut next to the roadside and to the steps.  The area will be cut and lifted at the end of the season.
