Site inspections
We have created clear steps to check building work on-site, as required by your building warrant.
When to contact us
You must let us know when a key construction stage of your building work is ready to be checked. These stages are listed in your Construction Compliance and Notification Plan (CCNP).
Before the inspection, you can ask if we’ll accept other ways to check the work - like photos or a live video call (Remote Virtual Inspection or RVI).
We may accept:
- Photos for simple jobs
- Proof that earlier problems have been fixed
- A live video inspection using Microsoft Teams
We'll decide if these options are suitable based on the type of work and your site. Please don’t send photos or videos unless we’ve agreed to it first - they may not be accepted.
Booking an inspection
- Give us at least two full working days’ notice before your preferred inspection date.
- We only inspect the stages listed in your CCNP, or if there’s a problem that needs our input.
- We don’t offer advice during inspections - that’s between you and your designer.
Submitting documents
Send all required documents through the e-building standards online portal. These documents are listed in your CCNP issued with your warrant.
What to do before a site visit
These steps apply to all building sites, including conversions and alterations:
- Contact us at least two working days before your inspection date.
- Have your Building Warrant reference and site address ready.
- Tell us about any special site rules or safety steps we need to follow.
- Let us know if there are pets and how they’ll be managed.
- Mention anything specific we need to check.
- Upload all documents using the e-building standards portal.
Remote Virtual Inspections (RVI)
An RVI is a live video inspection. We’ll decide if it’s suitable for your project. It’s best for small jobs or checking fixes.
We use Microsoft Teams for RVIs. Here’s how it works:
- You give us your email address.
- We send you a Teams meeting link.
- On the inspection day, click the link and join as a guest.
- The inspector will admit you to the meeting.
- They’ll guide you on where to point the camera and what to show.
- After the inspection, we’ll send you a report with any actions needed.
