Trusted Trader week is an awareness campaign taking place across Scotland helping residents to find reliable local businesses.

The campaign runs from 7-11 September 2026 and aims to assist people in avoiding doorstep scams.

About the scheme

Following the launch of the Scottish Borders Trusted Trader Scheme in 2023, we have facilitated several events and initiatives to build on the significant progress made by the scheme in improving consumer protection.

Through these events, we have provided many residents with practical tools and resources to help them make informed decisions, protect themselves from rogue traders, and recognise potential scams.

The campaign has also provided opportunities for residents to engage with teams offering advice and guidance on identifying and combating fraud, as well as information on where to seek further support and assistance.

Councillor Robin Tatler, Executive Member for Public Safety and Resilience

“Trusted Trader week is a fantastic initiative and extremely important in ensuring our residents have the confidence to prevent doorstep scammers.

“With increased reports of uninvited doorstep callers operating throughout the Borders, it is vital that residents never feel pressured into making an immediate decision and take time to check the credentials of anyone offering work.”
