A reminder to voters across the Borders to be Election ready and take notice of the changes to how we vote at UK Parliament elections.
A reminder to voters to check you have the appropriate photo ID so that when the Election date is called and polling day arrives, all you have to do is remember to take it with you.
You will not be able to vote if you do not have an acceptable form of photo ID.
There are a number of acceptable forms of photo ID that can be used when voting, the full list and more information can be found on the Electoral Commission’s website or call their helpline on 0800 328 0280.
If you are registered to vote but do not have an accepted form of ID or if you are not sure whether your photo ID still looks like you, you can apply for a free voter ID document online at Gov.UK website. You can complete a paper form available from the Electoral Registration Officer for the Scottish Borders or call our helpline on 01835 825100. This document is known as a Voter Authority Certificate, voters must be registered before they can apply.
Anyone who is not resident within the Scottish Borders local authority area can find details of their local Electoral Registration Officer.
We don't want anyone to lose out on their right to vote because you don’t have the appropriate photo ID – our message is clear voters should check now if you have the correct photo ID, if you need a Voter Authority Certificate, apply now, and don’t leave it until the Election date is announced.
