Free school meals and help with schoolwear

We can provide children with free school meals and assistance towards the purchase of school clothing.

All children in primary one to three are automatically eligible for a free school meal. For all other children to qualify in 2016/17, you must meet one of the following criteria.

Free school meals

  • Receive Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance (Income Based) or Employment and Support Allowance (Income Related)
  • Child Tax Credit (but not Working Tax Credit) with an annual income less than £16,105
  • Maximum Working Tax Credit and maximum Child Tax Credit with Income below £6,420
  • Support under Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 (part vi)
  • Universal Credit

School clothing and footwear grant

  • Receive Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance (Income Based) or Employment and Support Allowance (Income Related)
  • Child Tax Credit (but not Working Tax Credit) with an annual income less than £16,105
  • Maximum Working Tax Credit and maximum Child Tax Credit with Income below £6,420
  • Support under Part VI of Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Working Tax Credit and maximum Child Tax Credit with an income less than £16,105
  • Universal Credit

The clothing grant is only paid once in a school year between August and the following March, per child.

If you are renewing you will need your claim number from your renewal letter.
