School meal menus
Free School Meals / Clothing Grant application form
The Schools Health Promotion and Nutrition Scotland Act 2007 requires all local authorities to ensure that food and drink provided comply with nutritional requirements.
School meals are very much part of a whole school approach and part of the daily learning experience for children in school.
Primary schools
Primary school menus have been developed to meet the nutritional standards as defined within the legislation. The recipes contain less fat, sugar and salt and are now better balanced, healthier and more nutritious. The menu is analysed using software to ensure the nutritional adequacy of meals.
Primary school menus
Your child will have a choice of:
- soup with a sandwich or
- one of two main course options
These all come with the choice of either the daily dessert, fresh fruit or yoghurt and the choice of water, fruit juice or milk. The current price of a school lunch is £1.80.
Ordering
Menus are issued throughout the year and are based on a four week menu cycle. A pre-ordering system is in place which allows you to spend time discussing your child's weekly choices in advance.
One week prior to the actual menu running, your child will receive an envelope which highlights all choices for each day. You should tick the choices your child wants that week and return with the appropriate money to the school. For children entitled to free school meals the pre-ordering envelope system ensures anonymity where you tick the choices for your child for the week and return the envelope to the school.
Secondary school menus
Secondary schools offer cafeteria services where a range of meals and snacks are available and prepared in line with nutritional requirements.
Meal deal options are available at all secondary schools:

Cashless catering is in place for the payment of food and drink in schools. It is quick and simple to use where you pre-load your account via cash loaders which are located around the school or by cheque payment to the school catering manager.
