Women and Girls in Sport

We are committed to making the Scottish Borders a place where everyone has the opportunity to take part in sport.  We actively support and prioritise initiatives that lead to better inclusion of woman and girls in sport.

Current Initiatives

Scottish Borders Cricket Club

A Cricket Development Officer is now in post, with a responsibility for developing the women and girls game of Cricket, and to support future talent in the sport.  A series of participation centres across the region provide the opportunity for girls to play in a supportive environment.

Netball

Participation in Netball is currently strong through the schools programme.  Opportunities for adult participation are currently being developed in the Roxburgh and Eildon areas, aiming to encourage woman to continue to play netball.

Football

A new Scottish Football Association girls-only Soccer Centre, based in Innerleithen, runs every Thursday from 6 to 7pm during the winter season.

Cycling

Our Advanced Rider Development Squad is an opportunity for girls and boys to improve their cycling skills with a view to racing.  Girls who have attended the programmes, have had the opportunity to compete at national level in XC, Enduro and Downhill cycyling competitions.  Having female coaches, and older riders as role models and peers to train with have been positive opportunities for our riders.
