Funding has been approved to complete improvement works at Cardrona’s Village Pump Track - helping ensure the facility can be enjoyed by local residents of all ages.

The £3,200 project will be delivered in-house by Scottish Borders Council’s local roads depot at Eshiels, with work expected to begin in the coming weeks.

The works will involve surfacing a section of the track that has remained unfinished, creating a continuous surface that will make the facility more suitable for a range of wheeled activities, including bikes, scooters and roller skates.

Local community

The pump track has continued to be well used by the local community, particularly younger residents, but the unfinished section has affected the overall riding experience.

Now completing the surface will help bring this area in line with the rest of the track and improve the facility for everyone who uses it.

Funding was secured, working in partnership and with support from the Tweed Valley Trails Association (TVTA) and Cardrona Village Association.

Councillor John Greenwell, Executive Member for Roads and Public Space

“I'd very much like to thank all local residents and elected members for their work on this project. Without their support, this project wouldn't be happening.

"The improvements will benefit the whole community. By completing the surface, we’ll create a continuous track that can be enjoyed by people using bikes, scooters and roller skates. It’s important that local facilities like this provide welcoming spaces for people of all ages to get outdoors, stay active and have fun.

“We’re pleased that our local roads depot at Eshiels will be carrying out the work in-house, and we look forward to seeing the track completed.”

Spruce up

Local residents are also hoping to organise a fun day for children to celebrate the improvements, alongside a community tidy-up to spruce up the surrounding area. Further details will be shared when plans are confirmed.
