A new walking trail showcasing the very best of Hawick's bridges and public spaces - has been launched.
The trail celebrates the town's public art and forms part of Scottish Borders Council's RIDONKULOUS campaign, encouraging more people to walk and explore Hawick.
The project was delivered in collaboration with Scottish Borders Council's Active Travel and Transport Team and local artists.
The trail invites residents and visitors to discover the town in a fun and active way. Stretching approximately five miles (8km), the route links all 14 of Hawick's bridges while highlighting a range of local landmarks.
The project was made possible thanks to a People and Place grant, funded by the Scottish Government and supported by SEStran.
Special bench
A standout feature is the new RIDONKULOUS Hawick Bridges Trail bench beside the James Thomson Bridge.
Hand-carved by local chainsaw sculptor Mark Hume, the colourful bench celebrates Hawick's bridges, wildlife and landscape.
Designed as both a seating area and a piece of public art, it encourages people to stop, explore and enjoy their surroundings.

This is a fantastic project for Hawick. Whether completing the full route, visiting local landmarks or simply enjoying the new bench, the trail offers a new way to experience the town.

Running between the Jooglie Bridge and Hornshole Bridge using the active travel network, the trail takes in locations including Wilton Lodge Park, Common Haugh, the James Thomson Bridge and the Hornshole Monument.
The Bridges Trail is an exciting addition to Hawick's Active Travel Network, providing an engaging and accessible route that encourages people to explore the town's bridges, public spaces, and cultural landmarks.
Discovering what Hawick has to offer
Alongside the recently unveiled prototype signage developed by the Hornshole Greenway Development Group, the trail forms part of a wider vision to create a connected network of routes, interpretation and wayfinding that celebrates Hawick's unique heritage, culture and landscapes. Together, these initiatives are enhancing the visitor experience and encouraging more people to discover everything Hawick has to offer.
To help people navigate the route, a dedicated trail map has been created and can be accessed via QR codes displayed on temporary RIDONKULOUS signage at key locations throughout the town. Paper copies of the leaflet will also be available locally.
