Pupils from across the Borders have received confirmation of their exam results today, Tuesday 4 August.
Pupils from Hawick High School shared their achievements with local members earlier today.
Councillor Julie Pirone, Executive Member for Education, Lifelong Learning and Youth Development:
“I’d like to congratulate all our young people today. Their achievements are testament to the remarkable resilience and continued commitment that our young people have shown, and they should all be immensely proud of what they have achieved. It is hugely encouraging to see that Scottish Borders has attained a set of results which demonstrates a picture of consistent achievement.
“Every pupil is different and it is important to remember that they will have their own ambitions and aims for the future. For some, these achievements today will secure a place at university, and for others they will be an important step towards employment, a Modern Apprenticeship, further education or being able to take their preferred subjects and qualifications in their next school year. Thanks to all the parents who have supported them through their journey.
“Our teaching staff also work extremely hard and are committed to ensuring that every young person is able to fulfil their potential. It is really encouraging to see that our commitment to preparing our young people for their next steps in life continues to pay dividends, with an increasing number of them being able to leave education with higher levels of qualifications and attainment and move on to positive and sustained destinations.”
Todays results
Today’s results are the first snapshot of attainment and achievement for the 2025-26 session, reflecting the first part of the wide range of successes attained by young people from across the region. A fuller picture will be available in September when other accreditation such as college courses, other qualifications and achievement awards are finalised and the Education Committee will have a report presented to them in October.
This session, our schools have continued to extend the curriculum offer and accredit a broad range of subjects and qualifications at SCQF Level 5 and 6, as well as seeing almost 3,000 qualifications at SCQF Levels 2-4.
Overall pass rates remain high with over 90% of young people achieving awards at A-D and of particular note is the increase in learners in Quintile 1 who have achieved an A-C award at Higher.
In the core skills areas of Literacy and Numeracy, more young people than ever are attaining success:
- 97 percent of S4 achieved a literacy award
- 96 percent of S4 achieved a National 5 English award
- 90 percent of S4 achieved a numeracy award
- 86 percent of S4 achieved a National 5 award in Maths
