Scottish Borders Council has been recognised for its commitment to the Armed Forces community after achieving the Gold Award in the UK Government's Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.

The Gold Award is the highest level of recognition for employers who demonstrate exceptional support for serving personnel, reservists, veterans, cadet force adult volunteers and military families.

The Council has held the Silver Award since 2021, reflecting its commitment to ensuring the Armed Forces community is not disadvantaged in recruitment or employment.

Now the Gold award recognises the Council's continued commitment to building on this work.

Councillor John Greenwell, Armed Forces and Veterans Champion

"We’re delighted to receive the Gold Award, which recognises our ongoing commitment to supporting members of the Armed Forces community and their families.

“We value the skills and experience they bring to our organisation and remain committed to ensuring they are supported throughout their careers with the Council while continuing to champion the Armed Forces Covenant across the region.”

Armed Forces support

In addition to meeting all Silver Award criteria, the Council has enhanced its support, while promoting the Armed Forces Covenant with partners, suppliers and other employers.
