Eyemouth’s new pump track is officially opened, marking the completion of a new community facility for the town and wider Berwickshire area.

The track, located on the former playing field site immediately to the west of Eyemouth Primary School, includes a 145-metre asphalt pump track, a 45-metre dedicated jump line and a distinctive two-metre-high banked timber wall ride built above the berm. The wall ride is understood to be the first of its kind in the UK.

Community Project

Created for users of all ages and abilities, from beginners to experienced riders, the facility can be used by bikes, scooters and skateboards. The project has been shaped by the community over more than 11 years, after the local community first identified the need for a dedicated wheeled sports facility in Eyemouth.

Early discussions focused on a skateboard park, but children and young people had the final say on what would work best for them and chose a pump track, helping turn a long-held community ambition into a facility designed around their interests and ideas.

The official opening was attended by local children, young people, families, community representatives and partner organisations. Activities on the day included riding and scooting sessions, coaching, demonstrations, competitions and refreshments. It was a fitting start to the summer break for pupils.

Councillor John Greenwell, Executive Member for Roads and Public Space

“The new pump track is a fantastic addition to Eyemouth’s public spaces and will support more children, young people and families to be active outdoors. It is a great example of partners working with the community to deliver a facility that local people have asked for and can take pride in.”

Councillor for East Berwickshire, James Anderson has been part of the project for over 11 years.

Councillor, James Anderson

“It was fantastic to see so many children, young people and families enjoying the new pump track at its official opening. This has been a long-standing community ambition and it is brilliant to see it become a reality.

“Some of us had to learn exactly what a pump track was, but the young people knew what they wanted. The track has already been really welcomed by the community and it has been great to see different ages using it together, sharing the space and looking after each other.

“This facility belongs to them. It is a gift for the community to use, enjoy and look after for years to come.”

We would like to thank all partner agencies and organisations involved in delivering the project and supporting the opening event, including Velosolutions, Sea the Change, the Council’s Sports Development Coaches, the Ridonkulous active travel campaign and Giacopazzi’s for their generous contribution on the day. Thanks are also extended to the local community who attended the official opening and helped make it such a positive celebration.
