The newly appointed Head Team of Hawick High School joined Headteacher, staff, local councillors and construction partners on 26 June, to mark the start of superstructure works on the new high school.
The event marked a significant step forward in bringing a state of the art school to life - one designed to support students' growth, ambition and success for generations to come. Initial works began in 2025.
The new school building
The new £55.9m school building will create a modern hub for learning, community activity and wellbeing, offering pupils, staff, and the local community access to a wide range of high quality facilities.
These will include gym halls, fitness suite, library, art and music studios, and flexible social spaces designed to support education, creativity and community use. The development will also continue to benefit from access to the nearby 3G and 2G sports pitches at Volunteer Park, strengthening opportunities for sport, recreation, and wider community engagement.
The project is being taken forward by its development partner Hug South East Scotland and appointed main contractor Morrison Construction.
