Pupils and their families enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon of cooking with The Batch Lady during her visit to Burnfoot Community School earlier this week for the Batching with the Burnfoot Bairns event.
Suzanne Mulholland, known as The Batch Lady, who lives in the Borders, is known for her time savings recipes, family cooking, and author of The Batch Lady books.
During the event, children took part in making main meals, a dessert, and some snacks for the summer holidays, all for under £10. The Batch Lady shared her handy money saving tips and tricks with parents, carers, and partners, as well as showing them how cooking can be easy when you know some of the short cuts.
She also highlighted that by being organised and spending just an hour, families can prepare a week’s worth of meals that are home-made and healthy.
The primary 7 children particularly enjoyed learning how to make cowboy hotpot, as they thought it was a good match for their P7 leavers Rodeo which will take place next month.
Jenni Curson, Headteacher at Burnfoot Community School:
“I am very proud of the Pupil Council, who were the main drivers for this school event. Esme, Keeva, Winter, Jacob, Aiden, Eshaal, Mia Rose, Grace, Isla and October Lilly, contacted Suzanne and were delighted when she got back in touch.
“They have shown that their voice matters and that they too can plan and lead positive opportunities in our community that are right for them and their families.”
Councillor Julie Pirone, Executive Member for Education, Youth Development and Lifelong Learning:
“I would like to express my sincere thanks to Suzanne Mulholland. The children were delighted to hear back from her and excited to welcome her into their school. Everyone involved had a wonderful time, and are all heading into the summer with some new family recipes to try.”
