Our RIDONKULOUS active travel campaign offered a free bike-themed event for women and girls at The Auld Baths in Hawick.

Learn skills, build confidence

The event was hosted by The FNY Collective and MissAdventures, and welcomed people of all ages and abilities, giving them the opportunity to learn and develop new skills, build confidence and connect with others in the community.

Participants took part in a series of hands-on activities, from cycling-skills sessions covering balance, breaking, steering and pedalling, to a creative zone inviting everyone to transform old bike parts into imaginative new objects. A social pit-stop offered locally sourced pizza and custom-made bike-themed cupcakes.

Local non-profit community initiative Teri Bikes hosted a puncture pit, offering basic bike maintenance and repair support.

To make the event as accessible as possible, free bike loans, helmets and equipment were available to all who took part.

All attendees were entered into a raffle, with tickets distributed during the event for achievements.

RIDONKULOUS Agent of Change

Maya Houston, who attended the event, said: “I had so much fun at the event. It was amazing to ride with other girls, and I loved the skills area, the finale limbo with the music was so much fun. There was pizza, cupcakes and I even got a new buff in the raffle.”
