Borders pupils showed their gardening skills planting fruit trees in the grounds of Earlston Primary school.
Members of the design and construction team Stallan-Brand Architects and Goodson Associates along with staff and friends of Earlston primary school were on site to help the pupils plant the trees in the school’s new orchard.
The apple, pear and plum trees, three of each, were provided by Johnson Nurseries through P1Ltd, their landscape supervisors, Ji Gebbie, gave a master class in planting before handing compost and spades over to the pupils.
The planting ceremony also gave the newly formed P3–P7 choir the opportunity to make its first public performance, which was warmly received by visitors to the school.

Further works
Work to improve the outdoor areas at Earlston Primary School is due to begin on 15 May and is expected to be completed by 8 June. The project will see the school’s perimeter fencing repositioned to bring the existing tarmacked area into the playground, the footpath outside the school fence widened, and new parking created at the East Green area. The school and the Community Council welcome confirmation of these improvements.
