Report to withdraw proposals for Eyemouth Primary School relocation approved

Published: 5th December 2025

A report detailing recommendations to stop and withdraw the statutory consultation proposals regarding the relocation of Eyemouth Primary School was considered at full Council, on 4 December.

Council agreed the recommendations to stop the consultation and withdraw the current proposals, and will now take time to reconsider its approach and intentions regarding the Primary School project.

Since the start of the statutory consultation in October members of the public have been able to feedback their views on the plans via the Council’s Citizen Space consultation space as well as by attending a public engagement drop-in event and a formal public statutory consultation meeting.

It was also agreed that a comprehensive engagement plan will be developed that seeks to directly engage with a diverse range of community groups, to help inform proposals for the primary school. This engagement plan will begin early in 2026.

Councillor Julie Pirone, Executive Member for Education, Youth Development and Lifelong Learning:

“As a council we have recognised that the overwhelming majority of parents and members of the Eyemouth community are not supportive of the current proposals for Eyemouth Primary. The decision today allows us to stop the consultation, withdraw the current proposals and to reconsider our approach and intentions regarding the project.

“The council has an extremely strong track record of prioritising investment in its school estate to deliver high-quality, modern, fit for purpose facilities that provide the very best education for our children and young people, and this remains our priority.  We all want to see the best possible facility offered to the children of Eyemouth and will work together to deliver this.”
