The tower at HQ was lit blue to celebrate World Children’s Day, UNICEF’s global day for children, by children, and to highlight children’s rights and the ongoing commitment in the Scottish Borders.
My day, my rights
The theme for World Children's Day 2025 is "my day, my rights". The main focus of the day was to encourage everyone to listen to children and young people and understand how their rights are being upheld or are being missed.
Services and schools took part by creating opportunities for young people to talk about their lives, hopes and rights.
Councillor Julie Pirone, Executive Member for Education, Youth Development and Lifelong Learning
“World Children’s Day is a powerful reminder that every young person in the Scottish Borders deserves to be heard, valued, inspired, and supported. By listening to our children and upholding their rights, we are building a brighter future for all our communities.”
Council staff, services, schools and partner organisations were encouraged to wear blue as part of UNICEF’s Go Blue campaign, to raise awareness of children’s rights.
