A statutory consultation outlining proposals to relocate Eyemouth Primary School and create a brand-new dedicated early learning and family centre is now open.
Details of the consultation and what is being proposed
The proposals would see the existing primary school relocated and incorporated into Eyemouth High School with alterations made to the current layout to accommodate both schools on the same site.
A new building would be added to the High School to create extra space and provide a new STEM and innovation building, enhancing facilities for secondary school pupils.
The relocated primary school would have its own separate access and its own front door, and therefore its own identity on the site, whilst also benefiting from sharing educational resources and facilities with the High School.
A separate new build early years and family centre would also be developed at the current primary school site on Coldingham Road - adjacent to the new destination play park and skate park which is planned for delivery during 2025/26.
Engagement exercises with local community
As part of the Statutory Consultation, a series of in-person and online consultation sessions with students from both schools will be arranged during the consultation period to gain feedback on the proposals.
A public meeting will be held on Wednesday 12 November at Eyemouth High School from 6pm- 7pm along with a series of other public engagement events over the course of the consultation period.
Further details
The consultation is open until Monday 8 December 2025.
Paper copies of the proposals are available by emailing the school estates team or by contacting The Eyemouth Primary School Relocation and Early Years and Family Centre Build Proposal, Children and Young Peoples Services, SBC HQ, Newtown St Boswells, Melrose, TD6 0SA.
Councillor Julie Pirone, Executive member for Education, Youth Development and Lifelong Learning
“Relocating Eyemouth Primary School and bringing it under one roof alongside the High School, we will be providing a single campus site for all children in the Eyemouth area, offering the best possible education experience.
“This new campus has the potential to transform learning in the area for students by creating a seamless transition through all stages of education.
“This with the creation of a new, dedicated early learning and childcare facility on the site of the old primary school will enable improved learning and support for pre-school children whilst allowing parents and families to build strong community-based relationships.
“I would like to encourage everyone across the Eyemouth community to share their views on the proposals. It is important that every voice is heard in this process.”
