Earlier this month, the school's Instrumental Music Service was delighted to host a day of free workshops from The Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.
Wind, brass and percussion pupils from across the Borders took part in the event at Earlston High School on Tuesday 9 September 2025.
Throughout the course of the day, pupils had the opportunity to play side by side with up to 20 members of the Band. The workshops included a range of fun, engaging symphonic wind band music from different genres including film and pop, with the opportunity for pupils to play in smaller chamber music groups, such as sax quartet and brass quintet.
Parents, carers, and guests were invited to join the young people for a special open performance at the end of the day in the school auditorium.
Former pupil of Earlston High School, Sergeant Martin Gladstone from The Band Engagement Team was thrilled to return to where his musical journey began.
Councillor Julie Pirone, Executive Member for Education, Youth Development and Lifelong Learning:
“This event has been a wonderful opportunity for our young people to come together, play together and take part in a variety of workshops led by the fantastic musicians of The Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.
“My thanks go to all the organisers for giving young people from across the Borders the chance to be part of this opportunity.”
