We are marking the tenth anniversary of Scottish Housing Day by highlighting the vital role housing has on our local communities.
The theme this year is “good neighbours and communities,” which focuses on the importance of good neighbours in supporting our wellbeing and helping us live well in our homes.
The Scottish Borders is a largely rural local authority area, where housing, local activities, and engagement with neighbours can have a strong influence on wellbeing, especially in smaller and more isolated communities.
Local Place Plans
Our local communities have taken important steps to shape how their areas are developed, and planning has taken place for housing developments, community projects and transport and infrastructure through the creation of Local Place Plans.
Local Place Plans are community-led documents that set out proposals for the development and use of land. They also give residents the opportunity to share their ideas and aspirations about the places in which they live, work and spend time.
A number of Local Place Plans have already been created and registered on the our website.
Councillor Carol Hamilton, Executive Member for Housing and Culture
“I am absolutely delighted that we are supporting Scottish Housing Day for another year.
“The theme this year is especially significant, as good neighbours and strong communities are vital for mental wellbeing. In the Borders region, where communities are small, these connections are particularly important for providing crucial support during times of hardship and severe weather.”
