The Education Scotland report on St Peter’s Primary School and Nursery class published on 27 May 2025 has recognised several key strengths in the school’s work.
During their visit in March, inspectors talked to parents, carers and young people and worked closely with the head teacher and her staff.
Report findings
Inspectors found the headteacher and senior leaders provide strong, compassionate leadership. This is helping to create positive learning environments where inclusion is at the heart of staff’s everyday interactions. As a result, this is encouraging children to progress well in their learning.
Children show kindness to one another and are proud of their unique learning environments. They demonstrate well the values of the school and show empathy and respect for one another’s needs and talents.
The wide range of outdoor learning experiences and stimulating outdoor spaces were found to enrich the learning experiences for children. These are leading to children who are curious about the world around them.
The following areas for improvement were identified and discussed with the head teacher and a representative from the Council.
- As planned, continue to develop strategies to improve the progress, attainment, and achievement of children across all stages of the school and nursery class.
- Develop approaches to capturing and monitoring children’s progress, attainment, and achievements in all areas of their learning.
- Continue to improve approaches to learning, teaching, and assessment to ensure a consistently high quality of experience for all children. Staff should develop approaches to planning to ensure all children experience progressive learning that meets their needs fully.

Lynsey Keller, co-chair of St Peter’s Parent Council
“Representing the Parent Council, I am pleased to read such a positive report about our school, which highlights how confident, polite, and enthusiastic our children are at St Peter’s. It has been recognised children are engaged and motivated in learning, not just within the classroom but also using outdoor areas and the community to enhance their learning experience.
“The report shows a strong and nurturing relationship between staff and pupils, with the leadership team consistently evaluating and improving in all areas. The Parent Council are pleased to share the success of the inspection and look forward to supporting St Peter’s going forward.”
Inspectors are confident that the school has the capacity to continue to improve and will make no more visits in connection with this inspection.
