Businesses in Kelso are being urged to join in the Lloyds Tour of Britain Women festivities by creating eye catching window displays for the event on Saturday 7 June.

The winner will receive an advertising package from Greatest Hits Radio (Scottish Borders and North Northumberland).

Events in Kelso and Melrose

Stage three of this year’s race will see the world’s top teams and riders start and finish in Kelso, tackling a 148km route which takes in two climbs of Scott’s View and two passes of Melrose, as well as a sprint into Kelso two-thirds of the way through the stage.

A variety of community events are being planned for the day of the event, including race coverage, live music and dance, cycling activities for youngsters and the Tour Village within The Square, Kelso. Free spectator parking will be available at Borders Events Centre, Springwood Park.

In Melrose’s Gibson Park there will also be a big screen showing the race live and cycling activities for children and young people.

Our Tour of Britain webpages provide more information for spectators and local residents and businesses.

Window dressing competition

Kelso businesses wishing to take part in the window dressing competition must:

  • Decorate a window based on a cycling theme or red/white/blue colour scheme by Saturday 7 June
  • Complete a short online entry form on our CitizenSpace website before midnight on Thursday 5 June to allow all entered premises to be visited for judging purposes.

Councillor Scott Hamilton, Executive Member for Economic Growth and Developing the Borders

“This will be the first time that Scotland has hosted a UCI WorldTour cycling event and we can’t wait to welcome thousands of people to Kelso for what will no doubt be a brilliant day of cycling action.

“This is a great opportunity for our local businesses to capitalise on the significant extra footfall expected and we know from previous Tour of Britain Men visits what a fabulous welcome visitors will receive.”
