The Scottish Borders Health and Social Care Partnership is holding an information session for employers to learn about the benefits of achieving Carer Positive Award status.

This is given to employers in Scotland who create a supportive working environment where carers are valued and supported.

There are three levels to the award - Engaged, Established, and Exemplary. Employers progress through these by demonstrating their commitment to supporting carers, which includes implementing carer-friendly policies and practices.

Benefits of becoming a Carer Positive employer include reduced staff absences, lower recruitment and training costs, and increased staff morale and productivity.

Event details

The event will take place at Council Headquarters in Newtown St Boswells on Wednesday 5 February 2025 from 2-4pm.

Closing date for bookings is 25 January.

Councillor David Parker, Vice Chair of the Integration Joint Board

"This event is an opportunity for employers to find out more about the significant benefits of becoming Carer Positive so that together, we can create a more inclusive and supportive work environment for unpaid carers in the Borders.

"This not only enhances employee well-being but also significantly improves employee retention, ensuring that experienced and valuable staff members are able to access meaningful employment."

Encouraging employers to become 'carer aware' is a key aim of the Partnership's strategic plan for carers. This was developed in collaboration with the Borders Carers Centre and Unpaid Carers and informed by the 2022 Carers Needs Assessment.
