Scottish Borders Council’s Promise Team is looking forward to an action-packed programme of events to mark Care Experienced Week 2024, later this month.
Care Experienced Week first launched in 2018 by Who Cares? Scotland.
This year it runs from 21 to 26 October, ending with at trip to The Love Rally, a national celebration event in Glasgow. The aim of the week is to celebrate the Care Experienced community and to provide opportunities for them to connect with each other.
Other events during the week include online drop-in sessions to raise awareness of the Promise Team and the work they do in the Borders, social events for children and young people, and training events from local and national organisations who work with the care experienced community.
The week will focus on three key themes: awareness, belonging and celebration.
Events have been planned with the aim of raising awareness of the care experience for children, young people and their familiies, professionals, and the wider community, and to reduce stigma around what it is to be care experienced.
Care Experienced Week also promotes a sense of belonging and inclusion within the care community and provides an opportuntiy to celebrate every child, young person, and adult with experience of care along with their supporters, by coming together through a range of fun and informative sessions.
Councillor Julie Pirone, SBC's Executive member for Education, Youth Development and Lifelong Learning said:
"The Promise Team have planned a variety of fun and engaging events, which will celebrate the Care Experienced community and also offer an opportunity to connect, to raise awareness and promote a sense of belonging in the very important sector of our communities".
