Borderers should be prepared for some late winter snowfall on Thursday and overnight into Friday, with an updated yellow weather warning in place.
Earlier today the Met Office amended the warning, which was first issued on Monday, in light of new forecasts which show a much reduced risk of significant snowfall for the Scottish Borders.
The yellow warning, which now runs from 7am on Thursday to 2pm on Friday, covers all of the Scottish Borders with the exception of the eastern coastline.
Snow expected across region
A period of snowfall is expected from Thursday afternoon or early evening, which could continue overnight before clearing through Friday morning. Accumulations at the lowest levels are expected to be limited, with a small chance of up to 5cm, but larger accumulations remain possible over higher ground across southern Scotland. This could be 10-15cm over 100m, with some isolated upland areas over 150m potentially seeing as much as 20cm.
We have implemented our normal winter contingency arrangements across a range of services, including having additional resources on standby to assist with snow clearance if required.
There will be continued contact with the Met Office and key partners over the course of the coming days to monitor the forecast and conditions and respond accordingly.
School transport
Normal winter school transport arrangements will be in place on Thursday and Friday, and parents should ensure they listen to local radio on Friday morning in case of any route amendments or cancellations.
