Education Scotland acknowledges continued progress at Berwickshire High

Published: 15th February 2023

Education Scotland has recognised continued improvements at Berwickshire High School which were found to be having a positive impact both within the setting itself and across the wider community.

Latest report shows progress and improvements

In April 2019, Education Scotland published a report on the secondary school which set out a number of areas for improvement. These were agreed with the school and ourselves. A further report was published in January 2022 which recognised the progress being made. Inspectors asked for further information to be provided in a year’s time to ensure progress continues to be made at the school.

As requested, we have now provided Education Scotland with a report on the school’s progress.

After reviewing all of the evidence and in discussion with us, Education Scotland are now confident that the school has the capacity to continue to improve. They will therefore make no further visits in connection with the inspection report of April 2019.

As part of its arrangements for reporting to parents on the quality of education, we will continue to inform parents about the school’s progress.

Bruce Robertson, Headteacher of Berwickshire High School:

“We are delighted that the progress Berwickshire High School continues to make has been recognised and validated by Education Scotland. We aim for best in everything we do and have a strong focus on ‘team’. The sign-off from inspectors is a result of everyone working hard, working together, and focusing on the right things. Justifiably, we all feel very proud.”

Neil Bennett, Parent Council Chair, added: “I’m delighted that the Senior Leadership Team, staff and students of Berwickshire High School have been able to make so much progress in responding to the HM Inspectors Report of 2019. Our thanks and congratulations go out to all involved. The Parent Council looks forward to supporting the school going forward.”
