Community consultations for Peebles and Galashiels campuses to take place this October

Published: 11th October 2022

Two public consultation sessions will be held next week providing members of the Peebles and Galashiels communities an opportunity to view more detailed plans for both campuses.

What to expect at the consultation sessions

The engagement sessions will offer the opportunity for the project teams directly involved on each campus to outline the progress being made and showcase the design plans which have been further developed.

The first session will focus specifically on Galashiels Community Campus and will be held within the assembly hall at Galashiels Academy on Wednesday 19 October between 2pm and 8pm.

This will be followed by a specific session for the replacement for Peebles High School on Thursday 20 October, within the assembly hall of Peebles High School between 2pm and 8pm.

Information boards including more refined planning drawings, artistic impressions of what the campuses will look like as well as programme timelines for each phase of the construction process will be on show to view.

The session will also provide an opportunity for Borderers to provide feedback on the plans as they stand.

Councillor Leagh Douglas, Executive Member for Education and Lifelong Learning at Scottish Borders Council:

“Both projects to construct state-of-the-art campuses in Peebles and Galashiels are now making steady progress with construction due to start in the Spring of next year.

“Since our last consultation sessions within both communities, the projects have developed significantly in detail and design and now is the perfect opportunity to outline the progress that has been made before both we commence the construction phase.

“We hope these sessions help give members of the public a better feel for how the finished campuses will look whilst also detailing the next stages of the project timeline.

“As ever, your feedback is still extremely important as we move through these phases and we would welcome your views on the updated plans.”

Both projects are being delivered by the Council’s Development Partner, Hub South East

Scott Brown, Hub South East’s Project Director:

“We’re delighted with the progress being made on both the Galashiels and Peebles projects. A great deal of work goes into these types of major community infrastructure developments before they start on site and it’s fantastic to be able to share the exciting designs with the public.

“We would encourage local people with an interest in the new state-of-the-art learning campuses to come along to the events and meet the team behind the projects and find out more.”
