Members of the public are being asked for their views on the redevelopment opportunities at the former Jedburgh Grammar School site.

The former school, which extends across a number of buildings in the town centre, is currently empty following the creation of the Jedburgh Grammar Campus.

Consultation launched

We intend to sell the former school site for redevelopment and are keen to get the input of the local community into their preferred uses to inform that process and assist potential buyers.

The consultation can be found online and will be available until Sunday 21 August.

Arrangements are also being made for in-person consultation opportunities. The dates and venues of these events will be promoted when the details are finalised.

Councillor Simon Mountford, Executive Member for Estate Management and Planning

“The former grammar school site obviously holds many memories for Jedburgh residents, is in a key town centre location and includes listed structures. Its redevelopment could also form an important element of the regeneration of the town centre.

“Therefore it is important that, as we seek to market the site, the community gets the opportunity to identify potential uses which would help address local needs and support the economy of the area.

“A range of uses have been considered as possible opportunities, from housing to a hotel and care facilities, while there are also other potential commercial uses, including retail. This consultation is a chance for local residents and businesses to play their part and potentially help to shape the future of the site.”

Redevelopment considerations

As with the redevelopment of any site, there will be a number of considerations as to how it could be redeveloped. These include flood risk, archaeology, access and how it would relate to the immediate surrounding area.
