Social Work and Social Care to be at Border Union Show

Published: 11th July 2022

Our Social Work and Social Care teams will be at this year’s Border Union Show, due to be held at Springwood Park in Kelso on Friday 29 July and Saturday 30 July.

What Matters Hubs staff will be on hand to speak with anyone looking for advice about a range of health and social care services, community activities and events that may be helpful to support health and wellbeing.

Staff from the Community Equipment Service will be available with a range of daily living aids which are supplied following assessment and referral by social care and health professionals. Just some of items on display will be:

  • helping hand reachers
  • four wheel walkers
  • zimmers and other walking aids
  • community hospital beds
  • hoists
  • larger moving and handling equipment.

The Technology Enabled Care team will be showcasing a range of new and innovative ideas to help people stay independent for as long as possible such as:

  • the digital community alarm that connects with various sensors around the home
  • Ethel, a tablet device that allows care staff and family members to make remote video contact with clients to help with medication management and social isolation.

Councillor Tom Weatherston, Executive Member for Social Work and Community Enhancement

“I would encourage anyone who would like an informal chat about health and social care services to pop into our stand at this year’s Border Union Show.

“Not only can you speak to professionals about what support may be available to help you, they also have lots of information about the wide range of community activities and events that are up and running again now that Covid-19 restrictions have eased.

“If you can’t come along to see us in Kelso, remember that regular What Matters Hubs sessions are available across the Borders with staff on hand to provide advice, information and support.”
