The Health and Social Care Partnership's needs assessment questionnaire is seeking the views of unpaid carers across the Borders.

The questionnaire was launched during Carers Week, an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities. It also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much needed support.

The Partnership is committed to ensuring that the experiences of patients, carers and service users are central to the development and delivery of our services. We want to make informed decisions about the services that unpaid carers may need to support them in their caring role.

We are reaching out to unpaid carers across the Borders to ask them to fill in a short questionnaire which will help us identify their needs, and what matters most to them.

Chris Myers, Chief Officer for the Health and Social Care Partnership

“We recognise that unpaid carers may need to access support that provides them with opportunities to have a break from the demands of the caring role, have access to a life outside of caring and ensure they can continue to provide care whilst maintaining their own health and well-being.

“A carer is anyone who cares, unpaid, for a friend or family member who, due to physical or mental illness, disability or an addiction cannot cope without their support. You do not need to be in receipt of carers allowance to be recognised as an unpaid carer.

“If you are an unpaid carer, please complete this questionnaire and tell us what would help you in your caring role. The questionnaire has been developed with input from Carers through the Carers Centre and our Carers workstream, and I would like to thank everyone who has been involved so far."
