John Falla from Peebles has been named as Tweeddale Citizen of the Year for 2021
John’s nomination was made by multiple people within the local community who felt his dedication and commitment to the town of Peebles deserved recognition.
The Selection Panel were impressed with his significant contribution to community life, particularly his involvement with the Peebles March Riding and Beltane Queen Festival Committee which included helping to organise the week-long festival events of 2021.
His role as co-ordinator for the Bonnie Peebles Plus Gardening Group was also highlighted, along with the way in which he has worked tirelessly on planning and organising the flower displays that brighten Peebles during the spring and summer months. Thanks to his efforts as part of the group, residents and visitors alike are able to enjoy an impressive array of colourful floral gardens, tubs and hanging baskets.
In a further show of his community spirit, John organised the construction and installation of eight raised garden beds at the local March Street Allotments, helping to share the joy of gardening with residents of all ages in the community.
The formal awards ceremony will be held at Rosetta Road on Monday 30 May at 7pm, with 2020 Tweeddale Citizen of the Year award winner, Denise Hanks also receiving her award that evening.
