Actions agreed on Independent Inquiry

Published: 10th March 2022

An action plan and the necessary funding to implement further changes to policies, procedures and training has been agreed today to address the recommendations of the recent Independent Inquiry.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Mark Rowley

“Once again I would like to reiterate the Council’s deep concern and regret over what took place and apologise that we failed the children affected.

“The action plan agreed today builds upon the steps already taken to address various matters, and specifically deals with those areas identified by Andrew Webster QC in his recommendations as part of the recent Independent Inquiry report. In a number of areas it goes beyond those recommendations too, where we believe other action is appropriate.

“The necessary changes will not come about overnight, and indeed there will need to be regular reviews and continuous development to ensure that everything we put in place remains appropriate and up to date, and that long lasting change is delivered.

“It is essential that the progress of delivering on this action plan is transparent, and I am pleased that not only will a review group be established but that the Full Council will also receive regular updates.”
