Anyone considering running as a candidate in May’s local elections in the Scottish Borders is invited to join one of three upcoming workshops

The workshops will be held online via Microsoft Teams on:

  • Wednesday 2 March - 6pm-7.30pm
  • Thursday 3 March - 6pm-7.30pm
  • Wednesday 9 March - 12noon-1:30pm

Range of topics to be covered

The three identical information sessions will cover a range of topics including the general role played by Councillors, facts and figures about the area, the Council Plan, governance structures and the budget.

Information around the nomination and election process will also be included, as well an outline of the induction and development programme for elected members. There will be the opportunity to ask questions throughout the sessions.

Register your interest

If you are interested in attending, please contact our Elections Team to register your interest or telephone Jenny Wilkinson, Clerk to Scottish Borders Council on 01835 825004.

More information

In addition to the workshops, potential candidates are also encouraged to visit the Local Councillor Scotland website, which provides a range of information and advice.

COSLA ‘Why You?’ campaign, launched earlier this year, also highlights support and information available to people considering standing as a candidate to help encourage greater diversity in the candidates seeking election.
