The Scottish Borders Walking for Health project, Walk It has issued an open invitation to local people to join them and experience all the physical and mental health benefits of regular walking

Walk It is part of the Paths for All network and provides free, low level walks that last around 60 minutes and finish up with refreshments. They are ideal for anyone looking to be more active, feel fitter, enjoy time outdoors and make new friends.

The walks are approved to run with leaders trained in all relevant Paths for All, Council and Scottish Government COVID-19 guidance to ensure the safety of everyone taking part.

Councillor Tom Weatherston, Executive Member for Adult Wellbeing

“As restrictions continue to ease, I would encourage anyone who perhaps took part in a Walk It Walk prior to Covid-19 and would benefit from returning to have a look at what is now available. The walks are also open to new people looking for an activity to boost their health and wellbeing and also those who may be experiencing isolation or poor mental health following the challenges of these past months. You are all welcome – just get in touch so you can begin to experience for yourself all the benefits that taking part in a Walk It Walk can bring.”

Fiona Doig, Head of Health Improvement

“Regular physical activity is an important part of living well and participating in a Walk It walk brings many benefits, from being active to experiencing valuable social time with others which has been missing for many of us during the pandemic. It's great to hear about the ongoing commitment of our volunteer walk leaders who provide welcoming walking experiences to support people to begin, or continue, to be physically active outdoors in the beautiful Borders.”

Frances Bain, Walking for Health Manager at Paths for All

“We’re so pleased to see our Health Walk projects and volunteers ready and excited to welcome new walkers along to their local walks and reap the social, mental and physical health benefits from getting outdoors and exercising with a group of local people. If you haven’t been active in a while and are looking for some support to get moving, or you’ve missed connecting with people and are looking for some company, our Health Walks are a great place to start. You’ll be sure to receive a warm welcome from our Walk Leaders.”
