We've launched a consultation seeking feedback on proposed changes to the way in which each of the five Area Partnerships are developed

In 2019, we commissioned the Scottish Centre for Community Development (SCDC) to undertake an independent review of Area Partnerships and associated Community Funds. Nearly 200 people took part and, following nine weeks of public engagement, SCDC produced 41 recommendations as part of their wider report.

Each Area Partnership has reviewed the findings of the report and discussed ideas for how these could be implemented for the benefit of their respective areas.

Have your say

These ideas are now available for public consultation. Proposals include potential changes to the remit of Area Partnerships and whether they should remain a formal committee of the Council.

The consultation is open until 1 August 2021 and is available online.

It is also available in alternative formats and languages by emailing communityengagement@scotborders.gov.uk

Following the public consultation, the results and any recommendations for change will be presented to Area Partnerships and ourselves.

More information about Area Partnerships and how they currently operate is available on our website.

Councillor Robin Tatler, Executive Member for Community Development and Localities

“Area Partnerships are developing into a vitally important way for key organisations, groups, businesses and individuals from across the public, private and third sectors to collectively work together to identify and implement key priorities for their particular area.

“However, we know they could be even more meaningful and are committed to making them as effective as we possibly can. We want people to see these meetings as a real opportunity to get involved and have their say about what matters to them, not just about Council services but other organisations such as the NHS, social housing providers as well as other key issues.

“The proposals being considered as part of the consultation are the result of genuine collaboration by all involved. Some really great ideas have been generated which have the potential to result in a shakeup of the way the Partnerships operate. We therefore want as many residents as possible to get involved so they can be part of the change and help shape what is taken forward in their locality.

“We also know there are a lot of people who have never attended an Area Partnership meeting so we want to hear from them about the improvements we could make that would motivate them to get involved.”
